Two Years

Two years ago today, I stepped off the plane at Heathrow Airport to start a brand new adventure. It feels so long ago now and so much has happened since then that I can’t believe how naive I was. And for good reason, having not left New Zealand, nor my family home.

The second year was even better than the first, which I didn’t think was possible. I travelled to 4 new countries, saw plenty of shows and concerts, made new friends and grew closer to old ones. I took on more responsibilities within my job and witnessed my kids reach massive milestones. First steps, first day of school, a 1st birthday, a 5th birthday.

Just before I celebrated two years, I moved out to a flat near Stockwell. I’m no longer an au pair and now work as as a live out nanny. It happened very quickly, but it was definitely the right move. I’m excited about my job and loving having a greater divide between work and life.

Perhaps the best surprise came in the middle of summer, when I met the boy who’d quickly become my boyfriend. After we met, it felt inevitable to me that we’d get together, and we have been for 8 months. Things feel good, they feel right and I’m happy. Although it’s definitely a spanner in the works for moving back to New Zealand in the future, but I’m sure he could be convinced…

I don’t know what to expect for my third year in London. Hopefully more exploring, good times with friends and many more adventures. Here’s to the next one.
